2007 Charvel MasterBuilt Legacy

"Charlotte"

#GJ1014

This is one of two Charvel 'Legacy' guitars that I have managed to score ... so far ... this and "Emmett" below. These are absolutely stunning guitars. Handmade ('Master-Built') in the USA Charvel Custom Shop, and production limited to 20 worldwide. This was from the first series of Charvel 'Legacies'; the second series was the crazy-assed blood-splatter guitars. I'd still like one of those. This one is a standard strat-shaped body, which is reportedly hand-carved (no CNC carving). That is all well and good, and it is certainly very nicely done (and very nicely finished), but the real heart of this guitar is the neck. Oil-finished, 21 frets, rosewood position markers, and brass side-dots. The carve of the neck is just perfect for my (admittedly pretty big) hands, and the finish, or lack of it, leaves a lovely subtle roughness to the back of the neck. The stuff that goose-bumps are made of. The trem is a reproduction of the old Charvel 'v-trem', which works well enough for subtle warbly vibrato, but dive-bombs and flutters are going to have to be saved for Floyd Rose equipped guitars. I have a suspicion that some of the incredible tone and resonance of this guitar comes from that trem ... the simplicity, the mass and the way it is attached to the body. No modifications, and still running with its original Seymour Duncans (JB SH4 at the bridge and SSL-1 at the neck). Did I mention how nice the neck was?! Pretty much perfect. Comes with with a nice leatherbound CoA, which is hand-signed by Grover Jackson, Todd Krause, Mike Shannon, Stephen Stern and Mike Eldred, all of whom built the original early-80's Charvels. These were initially sold for $10,000 ... I didn't pay that ... you kidding? If you insist, we can talk about the finish. Its really quite pink isn't it. In the flesh, its probably more pink than the photo shows. Not a cool in-your-face neon pink like an Ibanez JEM, but a proper girl's blouse pink. Whatever. I'm pretty sure that I like it.
