Jaden Rose Tachyon 6

"Blu-Tack"

Alrighty, so this was a "Tachyon" 6 String electric, made by Jaden Rose.

A quick chin-wag to Jaden about these unearthed that this was one of the two prototypes that he made before going into full production.  I understand that these are made to order (not batch-built like the S2 guitars), and are handmade in the same way as the OS series ... note that the carved top is EXACTLY the same profile and carve as "Lauren" and my other Jaden Custom OS's.  Hardware was top notch, including a graphtech nut, a hipshot bridge and locking tuners, with DiMarzio CrunchLab and Liquifire pickups, routed through a DiMarzio smart-switch so that they're both coil split in the middle position.

Although these are "only" £1,600 new (quite a lot less than an OS), I struggle to see why they're cheaper ... everything except the use of expensive timbers (wenge, purple heart, bubinga and such) on the OS guitars is the same on the Tachyon.  Maybe that's it, as this has a mahogany body and a maple neck, neither of which are particularly posh or expensive pieces of lumber. The body was finished in Jaden's infamous wax/stain ... this time a lovely deep brownish-blue, which had started to wear on the contact points revealing more of the mahogany brownness.  Lovely.  The carve of the horns was (as I said) the same as on Lauren, so had the same reptilian Klingon look ... very aggressive and on-your-face.  Awesome.

The build quality was spot on ... and by that I mean ABSOLUTELY spot on.  Fretwork was flawless (if a little scruffy when it arrived, but a glug of gorgomyte soon sorted that out), with no snags or sharp bits anywhere.  I set the action good and low; any lower and it would have been difficult to play ... does that make sense?  I'm not sure of everyone is the same, but I like to lever my fingers under the string above when I'm bending ... I've always done it that way and am too old to change now.  Whatever.  Good, low action.  If Jaden had carved this neck using a mould of my hand produced by me squeezing clay, then he would have ended up with THIS profile.  Kinda thin but still with some chunk in the shoulders and supremely comfortable.

All in all, this sounded fantastic, looked great, played brilliantly ... and felt like an amalgam of warm chocolate and ironed velvet.  Which is good.  One day, I'll possibly play a Jaden that I don't like.   Possibly.

Regardless, like "Judith", this was sold as part of a clear-out of some (relatively) lower-end gear ... this got far less attention and play-time than the proper Jaden OS guitars that it was surrounded by.
