Stormshadow GuitarWorks 'DBS' Original Series

"General Lee"

#0017

Seriously ... I'm going to have to stop this.  It turns out that once you've got a few guitars by a builder that you're happy with, its difficult not to get more.  As was the case with this.  The eagle-eyed among you will notice that this is from the same series as "Monday", "Cleo" and "Kermit" ... in fact, this is one serial number higher than "Monday" and one lower than "Cleo" ... three sequential serials?  How cool is THAT?!

The paint is special.  It is clearly the Confederate flag (which is the subject of ALL SORTS of racist bullshit these days ... Jeeeeez), but, to us Limeys at least, this is simply the uber-cool flag from the roof of the Dukes of Hazard car, the General Lee.  It has been pointed out quite firmly to me by an internet-aquaintance from the USA that the graphic on this has too many stars ... the proper Confederate flag has 13.  Really?  How embarassing! Whatever the circumstances, the graphic looks GREAT.  As an aside, it was painted (as was "Monday") by Piers Dowell, who is renowned in the UK as the painter for motorsport helmets and custom motorbikes ... he has (for instance) painted racing helmets for the King of Jordan (Abdullah Il Bin Al-Hussein).  Whatever!

This feels and sounds every bit as peachy as my other Stormies, with that wonderful 'old-charvel-esque' neck with immaculate fretwork and detailing.  The body is strat sized, but with squared-off corners (like a Jackson Dinky, but full sized, whereas the Dinky body is smaller than a strat body). Very nice.  That Rich Atkin?  ... he knows some shit about guitar building.

The graphic is BEAUTIFUL ... bright and zingy with excellent colour contrast.  Before it arrived, I was torturing myself about whether or not to add an '01' (like the General Lee) to cement the fact that this is an ode to the General, and not just a Confederate flag.  Then I flipped it over and ... yup ... a lovely, big '01' painted onto the rear by Piers.  Fantastic.
