Jaden Rose Custom Shop 540Pii

"Bulldog"

Here’s one for us fans of Jaden Rose’s guitars.  This one is a very early one … a replica of the Ibanez 540Pii (the Alex Skolnick model, although it is referred to as the 'Skolknick' model on the original invoice from Jaden).  I saw a few pictures of this online and … man … what an UGLY guitar!  Let’s not sugar-coat the pill … this looked as ugly as a bulldog licking piss off a thistle.  In the flesh, however, it is an entirely different story.  The ‘overbite’ of the lower horn looks natural, like all guitars should be that way.

Whatever you think of its looks, it’s not possible not to love the way this guitar sounds and plays.  Built back in 2008 by the master himself.  His guitars RULE.  I stumbled across this on eBay, so contacted Jaden and he confirmed that it was one of his creations.  He also confirmed that it was the first time that he had ever attempted sharktooth inlays.  I couldn’t believe my luck.  It originally came with a bare headstock face (no logo), maybe because Jaden didn’t want to upset anyone at Ibanez?  I don’t know, and didn’t ask.  Jaden kindly agreed to supply some of his vintage 'Jaden' headstock logos (the ones that look like 'Faden'), which this now wears with pride; he also dug out some build shots, including the original CNC plan.  Pickups are DiMarzios (Tone Zone and Air Norton) with all sorts of coil-splitting tomfoolery going on through the five-way switch.  The result is screaming leads from the bridge hum, through to VERY quacky strat-tones.  All the way, fully, awesome.  Jaden was quite coy about the guitar, but for goodness sake, it’s joining the ranks of the other AWESOME guitars he has made that sit on my racks.  Fantastic.
