(FOR SALE)

Stormshadow GuitarWorks 'DBS' Original Series

"Monday"

#0016

This is getting to be a habit.  No sooner did I snag "Kermit" (my second Stormshadow) then this came up for sale, at a price that I couldn't resist.  This is my second Stormshadow StratHead (my third Stormy in total ... edit, now fourth ... edit again, now fifth), which was handmade by Rich Atkin in his 'boutique' workshop in Sheffield.  I was lucky enough to shoot the shit with Rich when I picked this one up, and it is VERY apparent that he loves old (read '80s') Charvel guitars as much as I do.  This one is a doozy.  The Charvel influence is SO strong, from the offset bullseye paint (an old school Charvel speciality) to THE MOST SUBLIME oiled chubby AAA grade strathead maple neck, bolted to a heavy solid Alder body.  This is also one of the original 55 guitars made by Rich before he stopped doing stratheads (although I understand that he WILL still make them on special order).  The pickup is a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom, and is very lovely.  Not TOO powerful, but full of the good shit.

The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that this is fitted with a Kahler trem.  A 2300, to be exect.  It is one of three that Rich made with a Kahler, and I now own all three of them.  That in itself is testament to his fascination with old Charvel guitars ... they often came with Kahlers in the early 80's, as the (then) brand new Floyd Rose trem was ring-fenced by Kramer.  Anyway, I have no problem whatsoever with Kahler trems.  They feel a lot different to a Floyd ... much more fluid.  I like that.  It alo adds hugely to the OLD-SCHOOL-COOL.

This plays SO nicely.  Which is disappointing, as I now want more Stormshadows.  To think that these are made by a big beardy-dude in Yorkshire is SO odd ... they feel like the old uber-cool Charvels from the San Dimas / Glendora factory in Los Angeles.

This is a beautiful and fantastic guitar.  I'm VERY impressed with it.

Awesome.
